The K&H Poultry Waterer is available in heated and unheated models. Each model includes those problem-solving features that no other brand offers. All K&H Poultry Waterers are 100% BPA free. The easy flow design fills the tray gently ... no more muddy mess from half the water spilling over when refilling. The heated version is extremely economical, using only 60 watts to keep an ice-free watering device for your chickens. The heated version is MET listed for safety. Fresh, clean water is vital for the health of chickens. Did you know that chickens are nearly 70% water and their eggs are approximately 74% water? In order for a chicken to lay a 2oz egg, they need 1.5oz of water for just ONE egg. Needless to say, an essential nutrient is water. Chickens need to consume twice as much water compared to humans on a relative basis. Laying hens should have at least 8% of their body weight in water per day. At normal temperature, chickens consumer 1.6-2 times as much water as feed.
